Liquidation price calculator

How it works

The liquidation price is the mark price at which an isolated position's margin falls to the maintenance requirement. On Binance, Bybit and Hyperliquid, that requirement is the position value at the mark price times the maintenance margin rate, less a tier deduction. Higher leverage and a higher maintenance rate both move the liquidation price closer to entry.

Binance: maintenance amount. Bybit: MM deduction. Often 0 in the first tier.

The formula

Liquidation starts when the position's margin plus its unrealized PnL falls to the maintenance margin. Binance, Bybit and Hyperliquid all measure maintenance margin at the mark price, so for one isolated position the liquidation price solves to:

long: LP = (Q × EP − WB − cum) ÷ (Q × (1 − MMR))
short: LP = (Q × EP + WB + cum) ÷ (Q × (1 + MMR))

Q = position size in coins EP = entry price
WB  = initial margin + added margin (Q × EP ÷ leverage + extra)
MMR = maintenance margin rate cum = maintenance amount / MM deduction
  • Binance USDⓈ-M: this is the isolated case of Binance's published formula. Read MMR and the maintenance amount from the symbol's tier for your position value.
  • Bybit USDT perpetuals: since 2 September 2025, Bybit measures isolated maintenance margin at the mark price, which gives the same formula. Added margin counts as extra ÷ (1 − taker fee) for a long and extra ÷ (1 + taker fee) for a short.
  • Hyperliquid: maintenance margin is half the initial margin at the market's maximum leverage, so MMR = 1 ÷ (2 × maximum leverage) and there is no deduction.

Worked example

A 10× long of 1 BTC at 70,000.00 locks $7,000 of margin. With a 0.5% maintenance margin rate and no deduction, the liquidation price is (70,000.00 − $7,000) ÷ 0.995 = 63,316.58, 9.55% below entry. The same short liquidates at 76,616.92.

On Hyperliquid, BTC allows up to 40× leverage, so MMR = 1 ÷ (2 × 40) = 1.25%. The same 10× long then liquidates at 63,797.47, closer to entry because the maintenance rate is higher.

The estimate leaves out the fee to close the position, funding paid while it is open, and tier changes as the position value moves. Keep your stop-loss well before the liquidation price.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my exchange's liquidation price a little different?

Exchanges also count fees, funding already paid, and the exact tier your position sits in. A large position can move into a tier with a higher maintenance rate. Use this estimate to plan, then check the liquidation price your venue shows on the open position.

Does this work for cross margin?

No. In cross margin, the whole account balance backs every position, so the liquidation price depends on your other positions and balances. This calculator covers one isolated position.

Where do I find the maintenance margin rate?

Binance and Bybit publish tier tables per market: each tier has a maintenance margin rate and a maintenance amount (Binance) or MM deduction (Bybit). Hyperliquid sets maintenance margin to half the initial margin at the market's maximum leverage.

Does adding margin move the liquidation price?

Yes. Margin you add to an isolated position moves the liquidation price away from entry. Bybit counts added margin net of the taker fee, which the calculator applies when you choose Bybit.

Is the liquidation price based on the last price?

No. Binance, Bybit and Hyperliquid trigger liquidation on the mark price, which follows the index price and is harder to push with one large trade than the last traded price.

Results are estimates for planning. Exchanges add fees, funding and tier rules of their own; check the order preview on your venue before you trade. Nothing here is investment advice.
