Trade Bybit with Ninja Terminal
- Spot
- Linear perpetuals
Updated Ninja Terminal team
Short answer
Ninja Terminal connects to Bybit Spot and linear perpetuals (USDT-margined) through your own API key and secret. Orders execute on your Bybit Unified Trading Account and funds stay on Bybit. You can place Market, Limit, Stop, and Stop Limit orders, set leverage, attach TP/SL, and see Bybit positions next to Binance, OKX, and Hyperliquid in one workspace.
Bybit runs spot and derivatives under one Unified Trading Account, so a single set of API credentials covers both. Ninja Terminal connects that account through Bybit’s V5 API and lists its positions, orders, and balances next to your other exchanges.
What can you trade on Bybit through Ninja Terminal?
| Market | What it is | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Spot | Coin-for-coin trading on your Unified account | Market and Limit orders |
| Linear perpetuals | USDT-margined perpetual contracts | Leverage, TP/SL, reduce-only, hedge or one-way mode |
Bybit inverse (coin-margined) contracts are not supported yet. A new Bybit account in the terminal starts with linear perpetuals enabled. Because the Unified account shares one balance, the linear view already shows your account-level equity. Spot orders use the same Unified account balance.
Which order types and features work on Bybit?
| Feature | Spot | Linear perpetuals |
|---|---|---|
| Market and Limit | Yes | Yes |
| Stop and Stop Limit | No | Yes (Open mode) |
| TP/SL on positions | n/a | Yes |
| Reduce-only | n/a | Yes |
| Leverage setting | n/a | Per symbol |
| Margin mode | n/a | Account-wide, set in Bybit |
| Hedge and one-way mode | n/a | Supported, read per symbol |
Stops on Bybit are conditional orders on the normal order endpoint. A perpetual stop carries a trigger price and a direction, and a spot stop uses Bybit’s stop-order filter. Only orders still waiting for their trigger appear in the conditional list. Once a stop fires, it becomes an ordinary order with the same ID. See take-profit and stop-loss by exchange for how exits differ across venues.
How does connecting a Bybit account work?
Bybit uses an API key and secret. There is no passphrase.
- On the Bybit website, create a system-generated API key and choose API Transaction. Key creation is not available in the Bybit app.
- Select the option that restricts the key to specific IPs, and paste the addresses Ninja Terminal shows you.
- Select Read-Write. Under Unified Trading, enable Orders, Positions, and Trade.
- Leave withdrawal permissions off.
- Submit, verify, copy the key and secret, and paste them into Ninja Terminal.
The full walkthrough is in How to create a Bybit API key. To see your Funding wallet balance in the terminal, Bybit requires the Asset Transfer permission, which is optional for trading. If you prefer least privilege, skip it. The API key security checklist lists what to confirm before saving.
What should Bybit traders know?
Unified Trading Account balances. On Unified accounts, Bybit has returned an empty availableToWithdraw value since January 9, 2025. A client that reads that field shows every coin as locked and cannot size a spot buy. Ninja Terminal derives free balance from the wallet balance minus locked funds, order margin, and position margin. For perpetuals, it uses the account summary. See Bybit Unified account available balance and the unified trading account definition.
Margin mode is account-wide. Bybit does not offer a per-symbol margin mode switch. Change it in Bybit; the terminal reads it.
Position mode is per symbol. Bybit applies hedge or one-way mode per symbol or coin, and each order must carry the matching position index. Ninja Terminal reads each market’s own mode before it sends a perpetual order, and it refuses to guess when the mode is unknown. See hedge mode vs one-way mode.
Spot market buy size. Bybit reads the quantity of a spot market buy as quote value unless marketUnit is set. Ninja Terminal sets the unit explicitly, so the amount you enter is the amount placed.
Using Bybit alongside other venues
Bybit positions join the same list as your other accounts, so you can compare exposure on one screen. In Quick Entry, a command like sol l 25k perp previews the order, and smart routing can place it on the best-suited account or split it across several. You can connect more than one Bybit account and nickname each. See also OKX, Binance, and Hyperliquid.
Ninja Terminal is not an exchange, custodian, or broker. Nothing here is investment advice.
Frequently asked questions
Does Ninja Terminal support Bybit inverse perpetuals?
Not currently. Ninja Terminal trades Bybit Spot and linear perpetuals. Inverse (coin-margined) contracts are not supported yet.
Can I change my Bybit margin mode from Ninja Terminal?
No. Bybit sets the margin mode for the whole account, not per symbol, so you change it in Bybit. Ninja Terminal reads the account's margin mode and leverage, and lets you set leverage per symbol.
Which Bybit API permissions does Ninja Terminal need?
A Read-Write key with Orders, Positions, and Trade enabled under Unified Trading. Leave withdrawals off. Pin the key to the IP addresses shown during setup. Seeing your Funding wallet balance also requires the Asset Transfer permission, which is optional.
Why does Ninja Terminal show a Bybit balance when the API field is empty?
Since January 2025, Bybit returns an empty availableToWithdraw field for Unified accounts. Ninja Terminal computes free balance from the wallet balance minus locked funds and margin instead, so spot buys are not blocked by a false zero.
