Workflow

How to trade crypto news: a workflow from headline to order

Updated Ninja Terminal team

Short answer

To trade crypto news, follow one repeatable loop: read headlines from a small set of fast sources, verify the claim against a primary source, check whether price has already moved, size the position small with a stop in place, then place the order. Ninja Terminal supports this loop by turning detected coins in a headline into chips that open the market.

Crypto news moves prices because the market trades around the clock and many participants react to the same headline. That makes news a tempting trade, and also an easy way to lose money: headlines are noisy, partly wrong, or already priced in. A simple workflow keeps the decision calm.

What does a news-trading workflow look like?

Headline -> Is it real? -> Already priced in? -> Size + exit -> Order -> Review

Run the same loop every time. The steps below explain each stage.

1. Which sources should you follow?

Use few sources and know what each one is good for:

Source type Good for Weakness
Exchange announcements Listings, delistings, maintenance, contract changes Cover only that exchange
Project official channels Launches, upgrades, incidents Marketing language
Aggregated news feeds Breadth and speed in one place Duplicates, unverified items
Social posts from known accounts First signals Rumors, reposted claims
Regulators and court filings Policy and legal events Slow and technical

Ninja Terminal’s news feed pulls real-time headlines and posts from TreeNews, Phoenix, BWE, Telegram and X. You can follow specific X accounts through My Sources and highlight keywords of your own through Secret Words.

2. How do you verify a headline?

  1. Find the primary source. An exchange post, an official project statement, a filing or an on-chain transaction counts. A repost does not.
  2. Check the coin. Tickers can collide, and a headline about one token can move a lookalike.
  3. Look for a second independent report. If every item traces back to one unverified post, the story is one source.
  4. Read the headline fully. Direction is often unclear: a hack can hurt a token and help a competitor.

If you cannot verify the item quickly, skip it. Missing a move costs less than trading a false one.

3. Has the market already moved?

Open the chart before you trade. Look at the time of the headline against the candles, the size of the move, and the spread. If price already ran far, the edge is probably gone and a late entry carries the full risk with less reward.

4. How do you size and protect a news trade?

News trades are fast and gap-prone, so risk control comes first:

  • Use a position size you can lose without changing your plan.
  • Decide the exit before you enter: a stop-loss level and a take-profit level, or a clear reason to leave.
  • Expect slippage. Spreads widen and the book thins right after a headline, so a market order can fill far from the last price and a stop can fill beyond its trigger.
  • Check leverage. Higher leverage turns a normal news swing into a liquidation risk.

5. How does Ninja Terminal support the workflow?

The path from headline to order is short:

  1. Watch the news feed. Sentiment coloring and the importance filter help you cut noise.
  2. When a headline names a coin, the detected coin appears as a chip.
  3. Click the chip. That market opens on the chart, with its price and funding in front of you.
  4. Type the order in Quick Entry with the grammar SYMBOL [L|S] AMOUNT — for example, btc l 100k for a long of 100k dollars — or use the preset long and short buttons on the headline. The live preview shows the order before you send it.
  5. Press Enter to place it. Smart routing can choose the best connected account or split the order, and safety checks cover flips, margin ratio, equity reserve and liquidation distance. You can attach automatic TP/SL to the entry.

Use alerts for follow-up conditions such as price levels, funding rate or liquidation distance, so you are not watching the chart all the time.

6. How do you review?

After the trade, note the headline, your source check, entry, exit and result. Ninja Terminal’s analytics page shows realized PnL, win rate, profit factor and fees by symbol and exchange, which helps you see whether news trades work for you or only feel good.

Risk note

Trading crypto, especially with leverage, can lose more than you expect, and news-driven moves are among the fastest. Headlines can be wrong, delayed or already priced in. Nothing in this guide is investment advice, and no workflow guarantees a result. Orders execute on your own exchange account, and you remain responsible for them.

Frequently asked questions

How fast do I need to be to trade crypto news?

Speed matters less than accuracy. Price often moves within seconds of a headline, so chasing the first print is a weak edge for most traders. A checked headline and a defined risk limit matter more than being first.

How do I verify a crypto headline before trading it?

Find the primary source: the exchange announcement page, the project's official channel, a regulator filing or an on-chain transaction. Rumors, screenshots and reposted posts are not primary sources. If you cannot find one, treat the headline as unconfirmed.

Should I use a stop-loss when trading news?

Most traders define the exit before they enter. News moves can reverse fast, and spreads widen, so a stop can fill beyond its trigger. Use a size small enough that a bad fill is acceptable.

What is a coin chip in Ninja Terminal?

When the news feed detects a coin in a headline, it shows that coin as a chip on the item. Clicking the chip opens that market on the chart. From there you can type the order in Quick Entry or use the long and short buttons on the headline.
